APSA tours Thai Rice Research Center, Govt Seed Lab and Multiplication Plots

PATHUM THANI: Officials from Thailand's Rice Department today (Sept 1) welcomed Asian Seed on a tour of rice seed multiplication plots, in addition to quality control, research, development and germplasm storage facilities at the Pathum Thani Rice Research Center, north of Bangkok. The government facility is the first and main of seven such sites in the region dedicated to the conservation and multiplication of "breeder" and "foundation" rice seeds, with more than 24,000 varieties conserved in its vast collection. To better understand and relay factors behind Thailand's leading world rank in quality rice production, Asian Seed will also visit private sector production, harvest and trade sites within the month, with full comprehensive coverage to be featured in the upcoming edition of Asian Seed & Planting Material, due to hit the press in time for the 24th Asian Seed Congress, scheduled November 13-16 in Bangkok.
