A training entitled “KU-WorldVeg Molecular Breeding Training” is organized to provide a comprehensive introduction to genetic resources, plant-pathogen interactions, and molecular tools in vegetable breeding and plant pathology. Through a combination of lectures, computer-based exercises, laboratory sessions, and field visits, participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in applying DNA markers, genetic diversity analysis, and molecular diagnostics for crop improvement and disease management.
The training is designed for researchers, breeders, and technical staff who wish to deepen their understanding of modern breeding techniques and molecular methods to enhance the development of disease-resistant, high-performing vegetable varieties.
Training Objectives
- Understand and utilize genetic diversity and germplasm resources for vegetable breeding.
- Apply DNA markers in breeding, disease diagnostics, and insect/pathogen identification.
- Perform practical molecular techniques including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/RT-PCR, and marker analysis.
- Use bioinformatics tools (Genebank database, PCA) to analyze genetic data for breeding decisions.
- Gain insights into vegetable production systems and integrate molecular tools with field applications.
