Introduction

Dear APSA Members, Partners, and Stakeholders,

As 2024 draws to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you for making this a truly remarkable year for APSA and the seed industry. From significant advancements in seed sector innovation to strengthened partnerships and collaborations, your unwavering support has driven our success every step of the way.

This year culminated in the record-breaking Asian Seed Congress 2024, held earlier this month in Sanya, Hainan. With the highest-ever turnout of delegates, the Congress set a new benchmark for the seed industry, providing a vibrant platform for discussions, networking, and innovation. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making it such a resounding success.

We also want to acknowledge and celebrate the transition of leadership within APSA. As we bid farewell to our retiring Executive Committee members, we warmly welcome our new President, Koh Teck Wah, Vice President, Takahiro Ando, and Treasurer, Chua Kim Aik. Their vision and leadership will undoubtedly steer APSA to greater heights. Special thanks go to Immediate Past President Dr. Manish Patel for his remarkable tenure, during which he guided APSA through a period of significant growth and transformation.

In this final newsletter of the year, you’ll find highlights and updates from the Congress and other seed industry developments in the Seed Industry News section below. These insights reflect our collective achievements and set the tone for what promises to be an even brighter 2025.

As we head into the festive season, we wish you and your loved ones a joyful and healthy holiday period. Stand by for more communications from APSA as we enter the new year, full of opportunities to grow, innovate, and collaborate.

Thank you for your continued commitment and support. Together, let’s make 2025 a year to remember!

Sanya Shines as APAC Seed Capital with Record Turn-Out for 2024 Asian Seed Congress

December 6, 2024, Sanya, China: The 2024 Asian Seed Congress (ASC) concluded in Sanya with a record-breaking attendance of more than 1,800 delegates from over 50 countries and territories. This turnout surpasses previous benchmark Congresses, including those held in Kuala Lumpur in 2019 and Macau in 2014, both of which drew record-breaking numbers of around 1,500–1,600 participants.

Co-organized by the Asia and Pacific Seed Alliance (APSA) and the China National Seed Trade Association, the event was made possible through collaboration with the Sanya City and Hainan Provincial Governments and support from  China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. This landmark gathering reaffirmed the Asian Seed Congress’s position as the premier platform for the seed industry in the Asia-Pacific region.
