ISTA Workshop on Quality Assurance and ISTA Accreditation for Beginners 21 - 23 November 2022 / Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand

This workshop aims to provide the knowledge on the quality management system for the seed testing laboratory. The course covers the document preparation, accreditation standard requirement, ISTA rules, equipment management, material testing, sampling process, sample preparation and the internal audit process for ISTA lab accreditation. Therefore, it is highly recommended for the seed lab testing manager, quality management system manager, seed evaluator, quality control manager and related roles to take this course to get a clear understanding of the quality control and quality assurance for ISTA lab accreditation. During the 3 day-program, all participants will be able to practice on how to write the documents and be able to perform hands-on training on equipment testing and seed sampling conducted by the professional instructors from ISTA.

Responsible for the management and operations of the ISTA Accreditation Department: Audit Programme, ISTA Proficiency Tests, Overseeing the Accreditation Department part of the ISTA website. Deputise the Secretary General , Support organisation and initiation of QA workshops, Participate in delivering the workshops and coordinate lecturers as needed. Support and participate in Association’s annual meetings and congresses, ISTA Executive Committee meetings (ECOM) and ECOM/TCOM (Technical Committees) meetings. Human Resources – recruitment and training of new staff “Seed Testing International” (STI) editor, support in  publishing reports in STI. Support special projects e.g., ISTA Electronic Certificates. Organises and conducts on-site laboratory assessments, worldwide (audits) as ISTA system and/or technical auditor. Other responsibilities as HoAT: member of the ECOM-Vegetables Working Group and ECOM Accreditation  Working Group. Observer of the ISTA Rules Committee, ISTA Rules  change proposals  ISTA Representative at International Laboratory  Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC)

Dr. Joël Léchappé
ISTA Honorary Life Member and ISTA Technical Auditor

Graduated in Biology (Masters of Biology and Ecology, covering Botany, Zoology, Physiology,…) in 1980. Then moved to Agronomy via a PhD in Plant Pathology at Rennes University and INRA (National Institute for Agronomical Research, France). In 1987, recruited at the National Seed Testing Station, part of INRA (today INRAe), as head of the germination laboratory. First contact with seed testing. Trained in seed testing and introduced to the ISTA world at the Uppsala University (Sweden) by Professor Lennart Khare (former ISTA President). Since member of different ISTA Technical Committees (Germination, Vigour, Proficiency tests,…).  From 1993 to 2020, Director of the French National Seed Testing Station (GEVES). Elected Member of the ISTA Executive Committee in 2001, and ISTA President (2010-2016). Immediate President (2016-2019). Today retired, honoured to share experience as an ISTA Honorary Life Member and ISTA Technical auditor, via workshops and other contributions.
