Mr Martin Ekvad joined the UPOV Office on 15 Octobre 2023 as Director of Legal Affairs. Martin is a national of Sweden and has a law degree from the University of Lund (Sweden) and a Masters of Law, King’s College London.
In 2022 Martin founded a Consultancy Business assisting clients in intellectual property rights, focusing on plant variety rights and EU policies in the agriculture-, seed- and horticultural sector. Martin was President of the Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), the EU Agency managing the EU PVP system, for 10 years (2011-2021). He was head of the CPVO legal unit (2003-2011) and he has worked in international law firms in Stockholm and Brussels as well as in a Civil Court in Sweden during the years 1994-2001.
