Dr Jai Singh is currently the President and CEO of Sakata Seed India Pvt Ltd since 2008. He has his M.Sc in Seed Science & Technology and Ph.D degree in Genetics-Plant Breeding from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, India in 1986 and 1989 respectively. Dr Jai Singh was a Japanese Govt Monbusho Research Scholar at Tokyo University of Agriculture, Tokyo, Japan from 1989-1994 and got his second Ph.D degree from same university in 1994. He has been working in the Vegetable seed industry in India since 1994 in various capacities of Seed Production, Supply chain co-ordinator, Managing Director and President of the company.
During his 30 years of experience in the various fields of Seed industry, including the seed production, stock seed management, R&D supervisor, Export-Import manager and majority of time since 1998 in the management of a vegetable breeding seed company in India. Dr Jai Singh was associated with the APSA Executive committee 2005-2009, 1st Vice President (2008) and President of the APSA in 2009. During the last 25 years, he has been involved in the various Seed industry policy matters discussion groups related to the Export-Import, Plant quarantine, Phytosanitory harmonisation in Asia, IPR, Special Interest Group in Vegetables & Flowers; and seed trade related issues. During his tenure of APSA President he supported the cause of the local seed associations in central and south Asia by holding the mini-APSA meetings in these countries where seed industry was not mature and encouraged the seed trade with APSA members.
