Dr. Melanie Octeto has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering. She is also a graduate of Master of Engineering in Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology. Most of her work is in post-harvest technology for dried agricultural commodities specifically in drying, storage, and transport. She is currently working as a Product Manager of GrainPro, Inc. GrainPro offers various post-harvest solutions for agricultural commodities including hermetic storage technology (HST).
She is involved in the development of new products and the improvement of current post-harvest solutions. Her exposure to the actual use of hermetic storage solutions gave her insights into how to use this technology to further improve the post-harvest practices of smallholder farmers, producers, traders, and exporters. Hermetic storage technology (HST) has been proven to preserve various commodities and has helped many farmers resolve their problems with insect infestation, mold development, and quality deterioration. HSTs also created a safe and healthy environment for farmers, preventing them from utilizing chemical fumigants such as phosphines.
