In this month’s APSA Seed Insights, we speak to Dr. Papassorn Wattanakulpakin or “Kwan”, who heads the Phitsanulok Seed R & D Center Department with Thailand’s Department of Agriculture to talk about her recent training with the International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) as part of a new initiative supported by APSA to increase seed testing capacity in the Asia Pacific region. Dr. Kwan’s laboratory in northern Thailand is the kingdom’s first publicly-run seed testing laboratory, and under the new initiative, Dr. Kwan will lead audits of laboratories ensuring compliance with ISTA’s rigorous standards to ensure the movement of pest- and disease-free, quality seeds.
