TRAVEL TO THAILAND

Thailand has completely opened its doors to international tourism with the lifting of all covid-19 restrictions that were previously implemented. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently announced that international travelers to Thailand will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination or ATK test results.

In addition, effective from October 2022 until 31 March 2023, the period of stay in Thailand will be extended to 45 days (from 30 days) for tourists from countries/territories entitled for visa exemption, and to 30 days (from 15 days) for those eligible for a Visa on Arrival (VOA). 

Passport Holders Who Can Enter Thailand Without a Visa

The VISA EXEMPTION RULE allows tourists from 64 countries1 to enter Thailand without a visa. They are granted to stay a maximum of 30 days if they are entering Thailand via an international airport or entering through a land border checkpoint from neighbouring countries.

Under the new provisions of the VISA EXEMPTION RULE and BILATERAL AGREEMENT effective December 31, 2016, passport holders of 64 countries are entitled to enter Thailand under this rule provided that they meet the following criteria:

• Outdoor mask-wearing has been endorsed as voluntary although the public is still advised to wear a face mask in crowded places—public transport, markets, and concert venues—or if they have certain health conditions.
• Restaurants and eateries are allowed to serve dine-in customers alcoholic beverages in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, as well as communicable disease control guidelines.
• Entertainment venues including pubs, bars, and karaoke lounges that have been certified with the Thai Stop COVID 2 Plus by the Ministry of Public Health are also allowed to operate in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations, as well as communicable disease control guidelines.
• Group gatherings in crowded places are allowed, but those with more than 2,000 participants must receive advance permission from respective authorities in Bangkok or the other 76 provinces.
• The visit is strictly for tourism purposes.
• They must have a confirmed return ticket to show that they are flying out of Thailand within 30 days of entry, as appropriate. Open tickets do not qualify. Travelling overland out of Thailand by train, bus, etc to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia (including en route to Singapore), Myanmar, etc may be accepted as proof of exiting Thailand. You may be asked to show your flight ticket on entering Thailand. If you do not possess a flight ticket to show you will be exiting Thailand within 30 days of entry you will be most likely refused entry.

Reminders During Your Stay:

While in Thailand, both vaccinated and unvaccinated/not fully vaccinated travellers are advised to strictly follow the health and safety standards. The government also does not require the wearing of masks but “encourages” those in closed and crowded places to take the necessary precautions in wearing them. Travellers who are experiencing COVID-like symptoms should get tested. If testing positive, they must get the appropriate medical treatment.
