Thousands of Varieties Showcased at First Tianjin Intl Seed Expo

TIANJIN, CHINA: The first-ever “Tianjin International Seed Expo” was inaugurated on Sunday (October 21), attracting more than 10,000 visitors from throughout the country. Attendees included large-scale growers, representatives of seed enterprises, scientific research institutes, fresh vegetable purchasers, supermarket retail chain reps, members of farmers' cooperatives, and other stakeholders across the entire vegetable industry chain. The conference attracted nearly 800 seed enterprises from China and abroad. Among them were 41 are well-known foreign enterprises, including Lima Grain, Bejo and BASF. Organized by the Tianjin Seed Industry Association in Tianjin’s Xiqing District, the expo was launched under the theme, "Gathering, Innovation, Sharing and High-Efficiency", and with the aim of "Gathering the Fine Products of the World Seed Industry and Brightening Tianjin's Development Style” Aside from the trading, the event’s field demonstration was also a strong attraction. It showcased more than 4,400 excellent varieties in 20 categories. Among them were 789 broccoli, 180 green onion (80% of which were hybrids from Japan and Korea), 312 spinach and 381 tomato varieties. No less than 50 APSA members were represented at the expo.
