About Venue

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre is New Zealand’s premium meetings and events venue, in the heart of the South Island. This world-class facility is set in prime position beside the Ōtākaro Avon River at the centre of New Zealand’s newest city.

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has been designed as Ōtautahi Christchurch’s ‘gathering place’. A key part of the regeneration of the city, the Government’s investment in Te Pae Christchurch is set to act as a catalyst – not only for the growth and development of the city, but as a way of building lasting social, cultural and economic connections between the region and the world.

Te Pae Christchurch can host up to 2,000 people, and the tiered 1400-delegate auditorium can be divided to host two events simultaneously. The additional meeting rooms include flexible spaces of varying sizes, across a total of 1,600 sqm. The exhibition hall will easily accommodate 200 exhibition booths, and is divisible into three to suit a range of exhibition requirements.

Our name, ‘Te Pae’ draws inspiration from several phrases in te reo Māori:

Te Pae Maunga – our mountain views.

The source of our origin and central to our land and people, mountains are a key element on the southern landscape, just as Te Pae is a central point within our city.

Te Pae Whenua – the vast plains we inhabit.

With our strong ties to mountains and the rivers and plains they create, it is only natural this influence can be found in the building’s design, where shapes and lines represent the contours of our Southern Alps and braided rivers of Canterbury.

Te Pae Tangata – a place to meet and converse.

To talk, to be hosted, to share, entertain and inform… for Christchurch, Te Pae Christchurch is a gathering place.
