Your journey will head West from Christchurch city passing by crops and scenic views along the way.
Travelling through the Canterbury Plains, New Zealand’s largest area of flat land with straight roads cutting across a mosaic of paddocks, you will pass through Charing Cross. 40 kilometres west of Christchurch where seven roads converge.
Continuing on through Hororata, a village developed to service the local community and continues to be an extensive and fertile farming district. You will pass through Windwhistle a small farming settlement. The name comes from the way the wind sounds when the Canterbury northwest wind blows.
Next you will arrive at your destination – Middle Rock Station. Bordered by the braided Rakaia River, one of the largest braided rivers in New Zealand with a flow of 203 cubic metres per second. It rises in the Southern Alps, travelling 150 kilometres (93mi) in a generally easterly or southeasterly direction before entering the Pacific Ocean 50 kilometres (31mi) south of Christchurch.
Your hosts Bruce and Lyn will welcome you and you will hear about the history of the farm before enjoying a farm tour experience at the scenic Lake Coleridge high country farm located at the foot of the Southern Alps.
The property farms over 7,000 sheep producing fine wool for the apparel trade and export lamb for international meat markets.
You will enjoy panoramic views of the Mt Hutt range. View seasonal farming activities, sheep dog mustering and see spring lambs. And enjoy a hearty farm lunch with your hosts.
Board your coach and enjoy the scenic trip back to Christchurch City and arrive back at Te Pae Convention Centre around 15:30.
